The Press Institute of India hosted a series of programmes during Madras Week this year (August 21-25).
The week opened with veteran journalist, editor and author S. Muthiah making a presentation about Madras – the American connection.
Partab Ramchand, senior journalist and sports writer, recalled covering sports in Madras, his experiences of fifty years and more.
Swapna Sathish, assistant professor at Stella Maris College, made a wonderful presentation on how the ‘nabobs took a part of empire back home’.
D. Hemachandra Rao narrated his experiences while ‘rediscovering the Buckingham Canal’ and took the audience back to the early days (1782-1806) before the canal was built. .
A presentation on the magic of textiles of the Madras Presidency by Sreemathy Mohan rounded off the series.
The programmes drew a fair number of people, young and old.
